Dear Parents,

As Vice President, I am coordinating fundraising this year, and I thought that I would let you know what is happening in the world of fundraising for the Co-op as it is a little different than in previous years.

We are trying to reduce the number of door to door fundraising campaigns this year.  There has definitely been greater success in past fundraising efforts that are built around an actual event involving parent volunteers, local businesses, and the community.

In the fall, we are going to kick off the school year with a Wine Tasting/Silent Auction at the Saybrook Point Pavilion.  This is a beautiful location and we should be right around peak foliage at the time of this event.  We will be discussing the formation of committees for this event soon.

In the spring, the Seaside Shuffle, our road race/walk, will once again take place.  This has been a great success for the last 3 years.  Let’s try to improve on the prior year’s success!

We are planning a Fun Festival to include kiddie carnival rides, a touch a truck event, Amber Alert IDs, and other fun activities for either the fall or the spring.  It will be a great day for our Co-op families to enjoy together!

We plan to continue the Yankee Candle fundraiser this year because it makes a strong contribution to the Co-op fundraising efforts.

The consensus among the parents at the Co-op last spring seemed to be to have fewer, but more interesting and eventful fundraising campaigns.  We will need active participation and enthusiastic volunteers to help make all of these events a success.  This is our big opportunity to make a difference for the Co-op and raise the additional funds needed to provide the extras for our children like music, Mystic Aquarium, and field trips.  We are putting in a new playground this fall, and our fundraising efforts will help support that project.
